"Why" asks for a reason or explanation. There are different ways that we answer a "why" question. Look at these examples:

Why are you tired?		Because I couldn't sleep last night.
Why do you listen to music?		In order to relax.
Why are you taking this correspondence course?
So that I can learn about Christianity in English.
Why do you exercise?		For my health.

In Chapter 6 we learned that "How come" also means "Why." Look at the different ways that we use these two expressions.

How come you have to do that?		Why do you have to do that?
How come you are cold?		Why are you cold?

Sometimes we use the expression "Why don't you (we) ...?" to invite people to some event or to suggest doing something.

Why don't we go to church next Christmas?
