Let's look at some other ways that "when" is used in English.

1. 「した時」を意味するWhenの用法です。"When" means "at the time."
   

   The Passover Festival was taking place when Jesus was arrested. イエスが捕らえられたのは、過ぎ越しの祭りでした。

   "When/At the time Jesus began his work, he was about thirty years old." (Luke 3:23a.)

2. 「するときはいつでも」というWhenの用いかたもあります。
   "When" can also mean "whenever" or "every time". It is used for facts about the world and about life.
   

   When Jesus spoke, many people listened. イエスが話されるときはいつでも、多くの人々がいました。
